The science (short version)
660 nm penetrates the skin to a moderate depth and is absorbed by chromophores in the upper dermis. 830 nm penetrates further into the deeper dermis. The published cosmetic literature generally favours dual-wavelength devices over single-wavelength ones for the appearance benefits people are looking for. The wavelength deep-dive →
Safety notes
- Don’t use if you take photosensitising medications (some antibiotics, isotretinoin / Accutane, certain psoriasis treatments) without checking with your doctor first.
- If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your GP before use as a precaution — there’s no published evidence of risk, but we recommend caution.
- Eyes closed during sessions. The visible red light is bright; close your eyes to protect them and to relax during the session.
- Don’t use over broken skin, active rashes, or sunburn. Wait for skin to recover.
FAQ
Can I read or watch TV while wearing it?
Yes. The mask sits comfortably enough for ten minutes of passive use. Avoid driving or anything that needs full visual focus.
How long until I see the appearance changes I’m hoping for?
For most customers, ~4 weeks of consistent use is when initial differences in tone and texture become visible. The fuller-looking benefits typically show by week 6–8.
Is it loud / does it heat up?
No, both. The mask is silent. It runs slightly warm — a few degrees above room temperature — but never hot.
What’s the difference between this and a $40 Amazon LED mask?
Two things. Wavelength accuracy (cheap masks often advertise 660 nm but actually emit something slightly off, which the body sees differently) and irradiance (the strength of light at the skin surface, which determines how much actually penetrates vs reflects). Our mask is calibrated to spec. More on whether LED masks are worth it →
